Semiotics of the Body

2025

My project, “Semiotics of the Body,” begins with a question I often return to: what does truly gender-fluid fashion look like—not just in terms of neutrality or androgyny, but in its capacity to slide across the spectrum between hyper masculinity and femininity? In answering this, I investigate gendered dress codes by deconstructing a secondhand men’s tailored suit —a symbol of masculinity and patriarchal authority — and reconstructing it into radically hyper-feminine apron-like form. Through acts of disassembly and layering, this piece questions the rigidity of gendered language in clothing and plays with metaphors of gender and transformation.
