Office Housewife - Textiles

“Office Housewife” collection explores the gendered history of secretarial labor through the lens of fashion. Inspired by media representations from the 1950s–60s, the collection investigates how secretaries—almost exclusively women—were framed as domestic figures within the office space. Often positioned between labor and domesticity, the secretary emerges as a hybrid identity: the “housewife of the office.” Drawing on archival imagery and cultural codes, the designs reflect on the conflation of women with objects of productivity and care—tables, vases, telephones—questioning the boundaries between work, femininity, and the domestic sphere.
